Tony would like to share part of his journey to thank all those who helped him… to those who take time to read this and to All Our Relations. He is Dakota – Lakota Sioux; a gifted artist, proud of his people, culture, heart and spirit. In a good way and through his art he tries to say what his words cannot.
A year and a half ago after his first seizure, Tony was told he had a large brain tumor – possibly cancerous. Another seizure landed him in the hospital in New Mexico. If he didn’t have surgery his tomorrows, family, friends would be gone. Thankful to Tankashila – Great Spirit he was humbled to his knees from darkness into the light, self-medicating with any “street medicine” he could find that landed in prison where he was able to get surgery. Thankful to Great Spirit it was not cancerous.
An outsider with an objective view and without judgment may see a symptom of addiction to ease the pain and inevitable prison. Perhaps unable to afford surgery and in retrospect it was a blessing. He has been given extra life and purpose.
Soon to be released from prison this May, El Dorado Institute, Inc. is launching a new program to help Tony develop a career path in the arts toward self-sufficiency as a recidivism model. We hope you will join us.
